1. Registering your address (Meldebehörde)

How to find yours: Use the state portal "Bürger- und Unternehmensservice Sachsen-Anhalt". You enter your place of residence, or use location detection, and it shows the responsible office. Magdeburg (Landeshauptstadt)

  • In person: book at the BürgerBüro via the city booking system: terminvergabe.magdeburg.de (select "BürgerBüro"). The same system also lists "Magdeburg Welcome Service" and "Zuwanderung". Source: terminvergabe.magdeburg.de (checked 2026-11-04).
  • Online: Magdeburg offers online registration of a main or sole residence through the electronic registration service (eWA). Source: magdeburg.de › Hauptwohnsitz-anmelden (checked 2026-11-04).
  • If you hold an electronic residence permit (eAT), use the address check on wohnsitzanmeldung.gov.de to see whether you can register online; otherwise register in person.

Halle (Saale)

  • In person: online booking for the Bürgerservice locations Am Marktplatz 1, Am Stadion 6 and Am Reileck (card payment only at Am Reileck). Booking confirmations come from noreply@saas.smartcjm.com, which the city says is its official calendar. Source: halle.de/serviceportal/online-terminvergabe (checked 2026-11-04).

  • Online: the city says registering or re-registering an address ("An-/Ummeldung") can now be done online, so an in-person visit is no longer always required. Dessau-Roßlau

  • The Bürgeramt handles registration, deregistration and changes of address ("An-, Ab- und Ummeldungen"). Source: verwaltung.dessau-rosslau.de › leistungen-des-buergeramtes (checked 2026-11-04).
  • Book online at terminvereinbarung.dessau-rosslau.de/tvweb (select "Bürgeramt"), by phone at 0340 204-2133, or by email at buergeramt@dessau-rosslau.de. Cancelled slots are released again automatically. Source: same Bürgeramt page (checked 2026-11-04).
  • Locations: Bürgerbüro Dessau, Zerbster Straße 4; Bürgerbüro Roßlau, Markt 5; Örtliche Verwaltung Rodleben, Steinbergweg 3. The city generally sees people only by appointment. Dessau also opens without appointments on one Saturday a month, 8:00–12:00, with tickets until 11:30. The 2026 dates include 07.11.2026 and 05.12.2026. 2. Ausländerbehörde (immigration office)

Who is responsible: In Saxony-Anhalt, the Landkreise and kreisfreie Städte are the local immigration offices. The Landesverwaltungsamt (LVwA) is the supervisory and appeal authority (Fachaufsichts- und Widerspruchsbehörde). It is not a place where you file applications. The LVwA also runs an "obere Beschwerdestelle" (complaints office). Asylum seekers can turn to it if a problem with the ZASt (central reception centre), an immigration office or their housing can't be solved locally. Source: lvwa.sachsen-anhalt.de › obere-beschwerdestelle (checked 2026-11-04).

Central office for skilled workers: There is none. Saxony-Anhalt has no central contact for the accelerated skilled-worker procedure (§81a AufenthG). The responsible office is the one for the place of work (Betriebsstätte), under §31(4) AufenthV: AufenthV § 31 (gesetze-im-internet.de) (checked 2026-11-04). Magdeburg

  • Address: Ausländerbehörde, Neustädter Höfe, Lübecker Straße 53–63, Haus 1, 39124 Magdeburg. Phone: +49 391 540-4389 (Tuesdays only, 8–12 and 14–17), or 115. Opening hours: Mon–Fri 8:00–12:00, plus Tue 14:00–17:00. Source: magdeburg.de/ausländerbehörde (checked 2026-11-04).
  • Appointments: terminvergabe.magdeburg.de/select2. Slots are limited, and new ones are released every Wednesday and Friday. Book one appointment per person, with names written exactly as on your residence documents. The office may delete non-emergency bookings made in the emergency group.   • Emergency appointments: these cover a permit that has expired, a permit expiring within 7 days with no appointment yet, a documented risk of losing your job, an urgent trip abroad within 7 days, or a lost document. Halle (Saale)

  • The office is called "Abteilung Einreise und Aufenthalt". Address: Am Stadion 5 and Am Stadion 6 ("Kulturtreff"), 06122 Halle (Saale). Postal address: Marktplatz 1, 06100 Halle (Saale).   • Walk-ins are possible for the Infothek, the asylum/humanitarian team and the labour-market/training team. Walk-in entry times: Mon 8:00–14:30, Tue 8:00–17:30, Thu 8:00–14:30. The Duldung team and document pick-up see people by appointment only. Source: same page (checked 2026-11-04).
  • Applications: you do not need to appear in person to apply. Send the form and documents by post or email about 3 months before your permit expires. Applicants in the labour-market/training team are explicitly referred to the online application route. Biometrics are taken at a later appointment. 4. Known differences vs nationwide guides

  1. No central immigration office for skilled workers. Each district or kreisfreie Stadt handles §81a, and the Landesverwaltungsamt only supervises and decides appeals. Sources: make-it-in-germany PDF and buerger.sachsen-anhalt.de, both above (checked 2026-11-04).
  2. Each city uses its own booking system: Magdeburg uses terminvergabe.magdeburg.de, Halle uses an online calendar (emails from smartcjm.com), and Dessau-Roßlau uses terminvereinbarung.dessau-rosslau.de. We found no statewide booking system.
  3. Magdeburg releases immigration-office slots on Wednesdays and Fridays and runs a separate emergency-appointment group. Walk-in emergency visits are not offered. Sources above (checked 2026-11-04).
  4. Halle accepts permit applications by post or email without an in-person visit, and allows walk-ins for some teams. Source above (checked 2026-11-04).
  5. Dessau-Roßlau sees people by appointment only, offers a Saturday Bürgeramt once a month, and its immigration office moved to Ferdinand-von-Schill-Straße 8 in autumn 2026 (section 2).
  6. Fees: The only state-published fee found is €411 for the §81a agreement (buerger.sachsen-anhalt.de, checked 2026-11-04). For local registration and permit fees, ask your office.
